In 2021, Georgia Tech CEISMC Expanded Learning Programs received the Building Opportunities in Out-of-School Time (BOOST) grant to support our K-12 science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) programming. The goal of the BOOST grant program was to provide evidence-based afterschool and summer enrichment programs that target learning acceleration and provide whole child supports, thus removing non-academic barriers to learning for students most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding for the BOOST program came from the American Rescue Plan, and the grant program was administered by the Georgia Department of Education in partnership with the Georgia Statewide Afterschool Network (GSAN).
For the past three years, these funds have helped us expand access to various groups of K-12 students by offering programming to students in rural areas of our state, partnering with school districts to bring groups of students to Georgia Tech, and by offering hundreds of scholarships for our weekend and summer programs. Unfortunately, that grant program has ended. However, we remain dedicated to broadening access to our programs for a wider range of students.
During the 2024-2025 school year, we will focus our efforts on our partnerships with schools to bring students to Georgia Tech for our K.I.D.S. Club and STEAM Workshops. We are not able to offer scholarships for these Saturday programs. We will continue to offer scholarships for our summer programs and will provide information about the scholarship process when we open registration for Summer P.E.A.K.S. in mid-February 2025.
